If you are planning to test your prototype that needs a controller probably raspberry Pi can be an Option. If you need to test it and do R&D Raspberry pi is a wonderful choice, however, its not an Industrial controller board and by that i mean you can not trust it for safety or performance issues. In this Episode, I have talked and introduced the Possible available Hats in the Market that Can upgrade a Raspberry pi to be similar to a simple PLC. If you have a motion control project and you would like to use available open source libraries such as Python, then you are in the right place.
1- Adafruit Step and Dc motor Hat

This Beautiful HAT can support up to 4 DC motor and 2 Step motor and has and external supplier with 5-12 VDC. The communication happens via I2C with the Raspberry Pi and therefore it is much faster and stable than GPIO Options.I bought last year one of these Boards, unfortunately it is broken after of One year of constant usage, however in general i am happy about it.
2- Geeekpi Raspberry Pi expansion card 4 Channel Relay

This Board is lovely. You can control up to four 220 V devices via I2C communication with the raspberry pi. there is a switch on this board that you can define the address of the board on I2C. You can decide to connect your device in NC or NO format.
3- GeeekPI GPIO screw Terminal Hat:

This Terminal Hat is very practical. You can Connect all the Input Sensors and output actutors via this board to the GPIO of the raspberry pi. There is also LED light for each input and output to see the activation of the signal. I highly recommend it for you DIY project.
4- Adafruit servo motor Hat:

Adafruit Servo Hat is beautiful and practical. You can control up to 16 Servo motor (5V) with each board. The board itself is supplied with a 5V power supply.
