Ep#23: Servo control of an Infrared heat lamp using Face recognition and object tracking via python- Part1-Introduction

In this episode, I talked about, how easy you can keep yourself warm during winter using a servo heat lamp that works in Infrared Area and works based on reflection heat transfer rather than conventional heat pumps that warm the air in order to keep the room warm using air circulation. Basically you do not need to warm your chair or bed in order to keep youself warm. The idea is to use a heat lamp that has two degree of freedom motion and can track you when you enter the room. In this way the lamp using a camera can recognise your face and location and can focus its heat on your body spot. Later there is also possibility to apply AI methods to recognise each individual face and apply the best temperature for the person inside the room. of course the down side of this system is that for each person inside the room we need a seperate servo lamo or if the two person are near to each other the focus field can be extended even using only one lamp.

The Electronics and mechanical structure:

I use a raspberry pi model 3 using a servo HAT in order to control the servo lamp position and also to communicate to the laptop via Ethernet in order to tranfer data. The raspberry pi has 40 pins which is used to control 16 Servo motors, however i only need two pins of that HAT. The two pins are SDA and SCL. Since i only use 5 Volt servo motors for the positional platform, i do not need an external power source, however it is recommended to consider an external source of power in case of more and stronger servoes. Also the HAT has a place to use a capacitant in order to increase the efficiency of the motor. Each servo has three pin (wire) which are +5 v- 0 v and also the trigger wire.
